Off to Maine

Norway Memorial Library is pleased to announce that author Steve Pinkham will deliver a talk via Zoom on the history of sporting camps in Maine on Tuesday, November 9, at 6:30-8:00 pm.

Maine is well-known for its hunting and fishing opportunities. But when did it all begin? Learn about when sporting travel to Maine began, how hunters found out where to go, and how to get there. When did the railroads get built into the woods, when did sporting camps begin, and how did they find travel books, maps, and guides to hire?

Steve Pinkham, who has collected over 26,000 related articles, written several books on the Maine woods, and writes a monthly historical column in the North Woods Sporting Journal, will answer these questions and more.
