We initially started our consulting journey with the goal of working with libraries to improve the strategic planning process, encouraging library staff to be active participants in the planning process and re-focusing goals on community aspirations and needs. Taking an active role results in a plan that better reflects your local needs because you know your community best, builds capacity, skill and support from staff, and can lead to positive changes in the organization’s culture. We’ve drawn inspiration from the libraries we’ve worked with so far and this has motivated us to create a planning method that is feasible for any library that wants to take a leadership role in planning the future of their organization.
