Reading Round Up Presents: Mindful Self-Care Online

Librarians serving the youth population, your job is hard! I know because I’ve done it myself. Mindful self-care can be as simple as taking a few long breaths or a body awareness practice as you pick up the puzzles for the thousandth time in a day. Join Heidi Whelan in a fun one-hour mindfulness workshop and walk away with several short self-care practices that you can do at work during a short break. There is a common expression that states you need to take care of yourself before you can take care of someone else. We ignore it because we are too busy taking care of others. Irony! My hope is our time together will result in the beginnings of a resiliency practice to allow you to continue your important work for years to come.

Heidi Whelan is a former Youth Services Librarian who is currently attending Lesley University for a Master’s Degree in Mindfulness Studies. She is a certified Mindful Outdoor Guide through Kripalu School of Outdoor Leadership and loves to lead mindful outdoor programming. Her professional goal is to facilitate mindfulness training for librarians as she wants to support those who are doing the great work of providing free and equitable access to materials, programs, and welcoming community spaces.
